Markets

Had a great day yesterday. Last week (while reading a paper waiting at a cafe for a takeaway coffee) I sort of accidentally stumbled across ads for two great little "mums and baby" markets held here in Brisbane on the weekend.

The first was Mathilda's Market. It was really good - the stallholders are clearly handpicked - each one was great (high quality, beautiful displays etc. etc.). I'd like to say I was restrained with my purchases but I kinda wasn't...

Firstly, I couldn't resist a little toy soldier (above) from tiny concept. Her work is gorgeous and very reasonably priced (the price tag really took me by surprise actually)... Pictured above in the Moses basket I bought (ebay bargain - brand new, less than half price). Very cute basket I thought - until a friend who has actually had kids informs me the baby will fit in it "for about 3 weeks" before he gets too big... Really? Hmm, I was hoping for a few months at least... I suppose it won't be the first time I'm shown up as an amateur clueless first time parent!

Next - we decided to invest in a set of Cushie Tushies fitted cloth nappies for the baby. I've researched these up the wazoo and knew exactly what I was after so when I saw they were exactly what I wanted and they offered a ridiculous discount we decided to get them. We had a good chat to one of the owners of the business while we were there - a Gold Coast mum who's doing so well. It's always inspirational to meet people who've found success in their small businesses and it feels good to support a local business too.

Then we headed over to the "Kids, Mums and Bubs Market" at Southbank. Like the Young Designer's Market it's an addition to the usual market there at Southbank and had stallholders selling all kinds of baby/kids related things.
We had a nice chat to some of the stallholders and sussed out a potential new fabric supplier. I couldn't resist buying a pattern from this stallholder for this little bunny. I think I'll make him tonight.

I'm glad I stumbled across these in the paper the other day, maybe it wasn't such an accident after all. Be sure to check out the Mathilda's Market website - they hold markets in other cities too (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and the ol' hometown - Canberra) and are worth checking out.

Grr - just had to delete and re-post - still issues with Blogger stupid formatting ever since i tried to reduce the font size in the template. Might have to go back to big text I never used to have any problems...
